5 Tips to Elevate Your Bed from Basic to Boujee

A wise person once said that we spend half our life in shoes and the other half in our bed, so it pays to invest in both. As we reach the depths of winter and the temptation to stay in and hibernate takes hold, it’s worth considering if your current bed set-up is facilitating your best sleep quality. Here are five tips to take your bed from basic to boujee!

  1. Size up on your duvet
One of the most common mistakes we see people make when it comes to their bedding, is choosing a duvet which is the same size as their bed. This mean there is not sufficient over hang to cover the bed and you can end up in a tug-of-war when sharing it with another person. When purchasing a duvet, choose one size up from your bed frame (if you have a king bed, go for a super king duvet).

  2. Don’t forget a flat sheet
With the temperature dropping it’s tempting to forgo a flat sheet on top of your fitted one. However, a flat sheet before a duvet provides an additional layer to insulate you from the cold. Sheets (fitted and flat) are less expensive compared to a duvet set, and the closest thing to your skin so it’s worth going for the best you can afford and saving on the outer set. A great bed is made up of a fitted sheet, a flat sheet on top, a duvet, 4 pillows (medium/firm) with two Oxford pillow cases and two standard size.

  3. White for the win
Although there’s a variety of beautiful patterned bed linen available, white is used in the best hotels for a reason. Not only is it a peaceful, calming shade to be cocooned in, it helps you to easily check it’s clean. We recommend sticking to classic white (neutral at a stretch) bed linen and adding intrigue with throw blankets and accent cushions to give you that hotel feel at home, but with an injection of personality.

  4. Karate-choppable cushions
A simple hack to make your bed look more inviting and luxurious is to ensure your throw pillows are plump and karate-choppable. When purchasing cushion innards, opt for one size up from your pillow case to create more volume and a shape you can sink into (if you’d cushion covers are 50x50 get 60x60 innards). Natural fibres tend to work best for this.

  5. Wash weekly & line dry
We all know it’s important to wash your sheets regularly. However, there’s something about line dried sheets that hit differently. The fresh sheet smell and feel lasts for longer than when they’re tumbled. In winter it can be a challenge to get them dry on the line before they go stale, so we recommend a quick blast in the tumble once they’re 80% dry. If you get them out the second it stops spinning and fold them precisely, ironing isn’t always necessary.

We hope these simple tips help!
