How to Handle these 6 Bacteria Hotbeds
We love our homes. They’re cozy; they’re personal; they’re full of life.
BUT–they’re also full of germs.
Those sneaky little germs love to hang out in places you’d never suspect (and a few you totally would). If this is not taken care of, the situation can worsen as some bacteria—under the right conditions—can multiply every 20 minutes. With cold and flu season upon us, our tips and tricks will keep your home sparkling clean (and your inner germaphobe sighing in relief).

Light Switches
Light switches are one of the surfaces you touch many times during the day. Yet, they’re rarely cleaned. So they easily become germ magnets.
To Clean: A weekly disinfecting session is all your light switches need. Use a soft cloth and a gentle cleaning spray (nothing too harsh—you don’t want to short-circuit your switches). You want to avoid spraying fluids directly onto the light switches, instead apply it to a soft cloth. Also, wipe off any excess liquid when you’re done cleaning.
Kitchen Sponge
The kitchen sponge is actually one of the germiest places found in most homes. Sponges and dish rags can quickly pick up bacteria as you clean. And if you don’t properly sanitise them between uses, they will basically become a bacteria vacation resort. But we can fix that!
To Clean: Switch to a Scrub Daddy sponge (trust us, it’s life-changing). And pop it in your dishwasher daily to give it a good clean. Not only will your sponge be squeaky clean, but it’ll also last longer—unlike that suspicious-smelling one you’re clinging to right now.
Door Handles and Rails
Door handles are touched by everyone, and not all those hands are as clean as yours. Stair rails? Same story. And, you’d be surprised to know, your bathroom handles aren’t the dirtiest of them all. Handles all around the home are a hub for germs.
To Clean: Wipe down your handles and rails once a week with a disinfecting cleaner or disinfecting wipes. You can do this more often if someone in your family is sick—or if you recently had guests.
Toilet Brush
You may have heard about putting the toilet seat down when flushing—justified, because it’s one of the most bacteria-ridden places in your home. But so is its cleaner: the toilet brush. This tool doesn’t get much love, but it should (especially its holder).
To Clean: Give your toilet brush holder a weekly spa day with some Zoflora disinfectant And, while you’re at it, consider upgrading to a silicone brush. These are way easier to clean and don’t hold on to grime like old-school ones.
Mop Heads
Mop heads help you clean—but in the process, they themselves hoard bacteria. That’s why these cleaners need a deep clean, too.
To Clean: After using your mop, place the mop head in HOT water mixed with Zoflora. (You’re also getting citrus-fresh floors!). Alternatively, you can run it through a hot cycle in the washing machine.
Tablets and Electronics
We swipe. We tap. And we binge-watch with them. But when’s the last time you cleaned them? Thought so
To Clean: Stay on top of cleaning your electronics by wiping them down daily. You want to use a screen-safe cleaner and microfiber cloth to keep the screen free of scratches. This is also really important for your children’s health.
